La Cascata del Giglietto
La Cascata del Giglietto
Giglietto Waterfall is a spectacular waterfall nestled in the hilly area of Carfizzi, with an estimated drop of approximately 35-40 meters that plunges into a rocky gorge amidst a rugged landscape. The setting is that of a narrow valley, with vertical rock faces, Mediterranean scrub vegetation that adapts to the gorge conditions, and alternating bright views and deep shadows. From an experience perspective, the waterfall is an ideal stop for hikers and nature lovers: it requires some caution when approaching, but is rewarded with the view of the waterfall and the natural pool that forms at its base.
Interesting Facts
The drop of the Cascata del Giglietto is estimated at approximately 35 meters, making it one of the most evocative waterfalls in the Crotone hinterland.
The Arbëreshë writer Carmine Abate described the discovery of the waterfall in one of his novels, making it part of the narrative of the landscape of his homeland.
The origin of the name is linked to the presence, once more widespread, of Lilium candidum and other species of spontaneous lilies that grew in the wetlands around the stream.
