Chiesa della Madonna del Carmine

The Church of the Madonna del Carmine is one of the most distinctive sites in Pallagorio, an Arbëreshë village in the Crotone Presila. Built between the late 16th and early 17th centuries, it is a simple and intimate building, linked to popular devotion and the calendar of community festivals. Its location along the historic axis of the village makes it a visual and auditory landmark (thanks to its bell tower) for the entire town.

From a landscape and urban perspective, the building fits into the compact fabric of the historic center: a simple façade, a single nave, and a brick bell tower dating back to the early 1900s, today nominated and promoted as one of the FAI's "Places of the Heart."

Interesting Facts

The "Arbëreshe" bells have become a symbol of identity: their ringing echoes the poetic texts of Luigi and Anselmo Lorecchio (1907), key figures of Calabrian Arbëria.

The FAI (Italian National Trust) has included the bell tower among its "Places of the Heart," a testament to the site's civic and emotional significance for the local community.



The church is often described as "village" neo-Gothic: humble materials, simple proportions, and meticulous details (pointed arches, columns) that lend it elegance without monumentality.
