Campana and the Stone Giants
Campana (Cosenza province) is a perfect destination for those who love off-the-beaten-path places: a quiet, scenic hilltop village, gateway to inland landscapes and one of the area's most fascinating sites, the Stone Giants (also known as the Incavallicata Stones).
Day 1 — The Village of Campana and the Slow Pace of the Hinterland
Arrive in the late morning and spend the first few hours in Campana: aimless strolls through narrow streets, small squares, and panoramic views. This is the perfect day to "get into the swing" of the trip: no rush, just time to observe the details and the atmosphere.
At lunchtime, focus on local cuisine (simple, seasonal, local dishes). In the afternoon, complete the tour of the village and choose sunset for a final stroll: the hills change color and the experience becomes more intense, especially in winter or mid-season.
Don't miss: a break at a scenic spot for "golden hour" photos.
Day 2 — The Stone Giants (Incavallicata Stones): the Elephant and the "Warrior"
This is the highlight of the day. Reach the area of the Stone Giants of Campana, two large sandstone formations shaped by erosion and surrounded by an aura of legend: one is called the "Elephant" for its shape, the other is often referred to as the "Cyclops" or the "Seated Warrior."
Here, the advice is to take your time: look at them from multiple angles, looking for the profiles that have made them famous. The visit is also great for those traveling with children (the "wow" effect is guaranteed) and for those who love photography and storytelling.
After the visit, return to Campana with a stop for lunch/snack. In the afternoon, take a short scenic detour: the area is linked to the Sila landscapes, and the "light" hike perfectly complements the day.
Don't miss: close-up shots + "profile" shots to recognize the shapes.
Day 3 — Nature and Surroundings: "Green" or "Sea" Day
If you have a third day, choose your destination:
Option A: Sila (nature and relaxation)
A day among woods and scenic spots: easy walks, clean air, and return in the afternoon. This is the ideal option if you want to end your "green" Calabria tour.
Option B: Ionian Sea (light and relaxation)
If you'd like a stark contrast to the hinterland, head down to the coast: a seafood lunch, a stroll along the seafront, and return.
Enhancement of the Ionian-Silan Lands. The Municipality of Santa Severina leads the Associated Information Technology Service (SIA) for the Sila and Pre-Sila inland areas of Crotone and Cosenza, pursuant to the National Strategy for Inland Areas (SNAI).
