I giganti di pietra
I giganti di pietra
The Stone Giants are two mysterious megalithic sculptures located in the Sila National Park, specifically in the Incavallicata area of the municipality of Campana. The two statues are called: the Elephant and the Colossus: the former represents a standing pachyderm; the latter is an undefined figure of which only part of the original structure remains.
Interesting Facts
An ancient 17th-century document mentions the site as "the great colossus that fell to the ground due to earthquakes."
The "elephant's" tusks are straight, reminiscent of the Elephas antiquus species, which lived in the Pleistocene and was also found in Calabria.
Several small caves and natural cavities are found at the base of the rocks, adding to the allure of "rock sculptures + nature".
